Common reactions
Learning Goals:
|
Task A - Neutralisation Reactions - Notes
After the in class experiment add the following notes to your "Acid / Base Unit Notes" file in Google Drive. (Teaching Slides - BASH) 1) Insert a blank slide under the Section subtitled "Common Reactions" 2) Title this slide - "Neutralisation - BASH" 3) Copy the generic word equation for a neutralisation reaction underneath this "base + acid --> salt + water 4) Insert a second blank slide after the first 5) Write your own notes to describe the reaction you did in class AND how you isolated the salt afterwards. |
Task B - Metal + Acid Reactions - Notes
After the in class experiment add the following notes to your "Acid / Base Unit Notes" file in Google Drive. 1) Insert a blank slide under the BASH slide from above. 2) Title this slide - "MASH - Metal + Acid --> Salt + Hydrogen". 3) Copy the generic word equation for a neutralisation reaction underneath this (see class teaching notes - MASH slide). 4) Insert a second blank slide after the first. 5) Write your own notes to detail HOW to test for hydrogen gas (one product of this reaction). 6) Watch a video demonstration here. |
Task C - Carbonate + Acid Reactions - Notes
After the in class experiment add the following notes to your "Acid / Base Unit Notes" file in Google Drive. 1) Insert a blank slide under the MASH slide from above. 2) Title this slide - "CASCHO - Carbonate + Acid --> Salt + H2O + Carbon Dioxide". 4) Insert a second blank slide after the first. 5) Write your own notes to detail HOW to test for carbon dioxide gas (one product of this reaction). 6) Watch a video demonstration here . |
