Learning Aim 1 - "State the purpose of an internal skeleton"
Intro: We all have an internal skeleton. I.e. we all have hard bones inside of us. All the bones which are inside us make up a system called the "skeletal system". Success: You know what you need to for this section when:
Task A: Put a heading in your notes: "Skeletal System Functions - why we need bones" 1) Brainstorm - list all the jobs or reasons you think we need bones (the functions of the skeletal system). 2) Put the five main roles of the skeleton as headings in your notes. (Support, Protection, Shape, Movement and Red/White Blood Cell Production). 3) Under each heading write 1 - 2 sentences explaining how your bones help with this job. Some links to help you with this are: here and here 4) For each function find a sports photo which illustrates this function and copy and paste it under your sentence. Include another sentence explaining how a bone is essential for this sport. E.g. a photo of a marathon runner - "the runner needs oxygen for their muscles which is transported by red blood cells produced in the marrow in their thigh bone". 5*) Find one picture of a particular bone which performs each function and add this under each function heading in your notes. Label it and add a sentence describing how it helps with this job. Task B: Download the worksheet here to compare exo- and endo- skeletons Review Tasks:
